After shooting and being a part of so many fantastic and fun weddings, we can’t help but notice the beautiful and elaborate Bridal Lehengas worn by our brides. We are always fascinated by their stories about finding “the one” — all the thought, planning and research that goes into finding their perfect bridal lehenga. Inspired by their stories, we decided to do our own research and came out with our Top 5 picks for Bridal Lehengas! As photographers, we picked up the colors and styles that look best in wedding photographs and, obviously, makes the bride stand out! Here goes…
#1: Classic Red
Since the day we shot this wedding, we cannot stop drooling over this elegant masterpiece by Sabyasachi. A timeless classic, this one perfectly suits Indian Brides – across seasons, skin tones and body types. The simple choli complements the heavily embroidered lehenga skirt and dupatta. As a colour, red never disappoints and always stands out in photographs. Our lovely bride, Priyanka, looked gorgeous in this lehenga!

#2: Green & Gold
This gorgeous sage-green gota patti bridal lehenga, paired with a gold raw-silk choli and a net dupatta by Anita Dongre is one of our favourites! It looks rich and almost ethereal. Even though the colours are subtle and the design simple, it photographs well beautifully. The heavily embroidered border gives it heft and weight and the look can be completed with classic, minimal pieces of jewellery and accessories.

#3: Pure White
Although white is not the traditional bridal colour in North India, we are immensely inspired by this all-white bridal lehenga by Phatphattitude, known for their bold designs and colour choices. The all-white lehengas is embellished and embroidered with more white and gold, making it a classy and elegant piece. Diametrically opposite from our usual preference of bright and colourful outfits, this piece stands out in it’s own way, because of the absence of colour rather than despite it. It makes a bold statement and allows for a lot of creativity in the jewellery, accessories and makeup departments. We are almost tempted to say ‘white is the new red’.

#4: Coral & Pearl
Without venturing too far from the classic red tones, we loved this coral, gold and pearl bridal lehenga from MadSam TinZin. It is a lovely combination of a modern, flattering silhouette and exquisite zari embroidery. The striking colour is a guaranteed head turner and, of course, looks gorgeous in photographs.

#5: Floral Elegance
The subtle earthy colours of this lehenga by Shyamal and Bhumika caught our fancy at once – the colours made such a lovely canvas for the striking embroidery. The unusual embroidery motifs, the almost “blank” border and the simple-yet-sparkly choli with the bold neckline make this very different kind of bridal lehenga – one that we are crushing on pretty badly! It’s subtle and dazzling, all at once and would make a beautiful outfit for a minimalist bride.

As wedding photographers, we can safely say that while the Classic Red Lehenga wins more times than any other kind, there are so many brides out there who not only are not afraid to wear something unusual, they seek it out. They want more – something to suit their personalities more perfectly and something to stand apart from the crowd. From a photography point of view, we will always love vibrant colours like red, fuchsia, orange, yellow, coral but we are also great fans of unusual combinations and detailing in greens, blues and purples. If styled and accessorised well, we believe that even subdued whites, creams, golds and pastels can stand out in the crowd and brides should not be afraid of stirring the pot a bit!
